Hello Unity Peeps :) This is now my third FWF and I think it is safe to say that I am hooked ;) I have a question for everyone before I get to my card. Is anyone else having issues posting a clean entry with blogger? What I mean is, do the photos and words go where you want them to go? Mine do not and I cannot figure out why. I have even changed browsers and it still does it. It is getting very frustrating because I end up spending hours trying to fix it and nothing I do seems to work. Iwas justwondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if you have figured out what it is that is causing it. Right now, I am going with 'user error'...lol ;)

Unity FWF...My first Canvas...

Hello friends :) This is a quick post today fro I am just barely making the cut for Unity's FWF. Today I am sharing my very first canvas....I made it for my husband for his birthday. Being a Michael Jordan fan his entire life, he still loves and collects stuff. I drew an Air Jordan symbol freehand and then painted it to look like a classic clothing tag from his line of fashion. I added "circa 1985" to symbolize the year the line first came to be. I then decided to add a grunge like border with stamps down the left side. This is where Unity and Ippity enter the picture. I randomly stamped quite a few different Unity and Ippity stamps from different sets, as well as a few from other manufacturers. I will have to edit my supply list in later as I seemed to have misplaced it. i was really nervous that I was going to mess this up....the drawing especially, but I really ended up liking how it turned out. My husband freaked when he saw it and that was such an awesome feeling for me...seeing him so excited...like he was 11 all over again :) Here are a few pics of the step by step process....including a closeup pic of the rough pencil drawing:

I had to include a close up of one of my fave Ippity stamps from the "Love In Return" set....it reminds me to be original...after all, there is no one else like you and that, my friends, is a very cool thing :D

You can easily make one too...follow this tutorial to ruffle your ribbon, http://mochavation.blogspot.com/2011/07/always-fun-when-i-am-with-youcas-sunday.html.
Then, lay your newly ruffled ribbon down in a circle, using glue dots to help secure.

The song, "Just The Way You Are," by Bruno Mars was special for my mommy and me. I used to love to sing it to her at the top of my lungs...especially the verse, "Girl you're amazing, just the way you are". She always was, and still is in my heart, amazing...without even trying. With that little tidbit, you can imagine why this particular stamp jumped out at me when I received my Unity august Kit Of The Month...I inked it up...that day...5 minutes after I opened it up from the mail. That was the fastest I ever used a new stamp! Yep...inspiration...that is what it is all about.

I know what you are thinking....'Does this chick ever use any stamps other than Unity or Ippity?'...well, the answer is yes....BUT....not very often :) I seem to find something I love and go with it for as long as it will have me...lol...just went to Kohl's 2 weeks ago and purchased a tank top that I love (it totally covers the butt smile that I seem to get when wearing pants off of my hips)...soooo....I went back on Sunday and bought almost every color that I could find in my size....crazy, huh?

Now, do not take that the wrong way....I have many other companies that are faves too....it just seems that I migrate to Unity/Ippity....the owner is just so inspirational and uplifting...how can you not fall in love with a company like this? Moral of the story here is, if you have not tried Unity/Ippity....run...run fast....and get it NOW!!!! The quality and diversity will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!

Yes sir....me lovey some Itty Bitty stamps by Unity!!! It is so sad that a great majority of their newest releases seem to be retail only...I just purchsed 1 stamp set and 2 tiny stamps and had to pay $7.75 for shipping...I do not have a LSS anymore, so my heart was broken when I found out that I could not order some of these new and juicy must-have stamps from the Unity website. Not every online store has the ones I want, which means that I am looking at multiple shipping costs. If you should ever happen to read this Unity, please, oh please....allow consumers to still order these retail only stamps from your website...at least twice a year? I know that you want to help the sales of these retailers, but I would love to purchase many of these stamps and this is just not an economical way for me and for others who may incur multiple shipping costs. I love Ippity and Unity (as if you cannot already tell) and would love to keep supporting these lines as much as possible. I only wish it were a little less difficult.

Hellooooo cyber cuties!!! I am back.....in the BEST way...wanna know why I chose those words? It is because I have a NEW computer!!!! Yahoooooo!!!!! I am so super excited to be able to blog again regularly...I adore my iPad, but I could not accomplish any blog posting nor challenge posting (a DT duty) and it was driving me CRAZY!!! I truly disliked having to borrow someone's computer to get that stuff done. My hubby gave me my birthday present early...ta da....the new laptop. Best Buy is having some crazy Back 2 School sales right now and I truly believe that they are better than what will be available the day after Thanksgiving and at Christmas. Now the one we purchased fits my needs...it is not number 1 on the Geek-O-Meter, as I like to call it, but it is perfect for me to do what I need to :) I cannot wait to try to Skype as well...just have to find someone to do it with...hee hee ;)

A little bit of winter in August with grunge flakes :)

I recently purchased a set of Tim Holtz's Grunge Flakes by Stampers Anonymous...LOVE them!!!!!!!!!!!! I used them with Versamark ink to make the bacground paper...i like the watermark effect :) The frame was actually a solid Unity stamp....I cut the bird image out of the center with an exacto knife and voila! I was left with a gorgeous frame....yummy! My heart flutters when I can use a stamp in more than one way :) Wouldn't you agree?

I used yellow bling so it would look like the headlights were on. Reminds me of going to the drive-in. I always loved going there with my mommy...in my p.j.'s so that when we got home I could go straight to bed. The drive-in we used to go to closed years ago, but there is one that is about 30 minutes away. I have been trying to get Mike to go...being that he gets up at 3:30am for work every day I think it is safe to say that we will not be taking in a movie there anytime soon. Speaking of movies, what was the last one that you saw? We went to see Bad Teacher....not so good...except for the fact that Justin Timberlake was in it ;)

I am trying to make nice with this computer...so far it has reciprocated my feelings of friendship. I would like to get back into blogging more if it will allow me :) Let's keep our fingers crossed because I miss you all!!!!!

hee hee...CAS Sunday at The Outlawz on a Tuesday ;) My computer woes continue...I am thankful to have my iPad to still check in places, but when it comes to posting pics it is a real pain. No sense in complaining about something I cannot control right now :)

This week's challenge is "Something Old, Something New and Something Blue". This one was supah fun! I even tried a ribbon trick that I have wanted to give a go...handmade ruffled ribbon...very easy and fun to do...I did a mini tutorial very quickly to add to this post...hope you give it a try because you can save money while you use up your stash :) I know I will definitely be making more.

First, fray the end of your ribbon using your fingernails and pull a bit out of the middle of the ribbon as pictured:

You will start to be able to gather and scrunch it nicely and easily by isolating a single strand to pull.

One important thing I found was to leave the ribbon on the roll until you have the length desired. You can actually pull the strand you isolated completely out of the ribbon if using a single piece...talk about frustrating ;) Look how lovely your ruffle looks!

Next, you want to use a strong adhesive to lay your newly ruffled ribbon on your project. I chose double sided tape because I seem to have went through a buying phase at some point and have too much :) You can adjust your ruffles as needed....hee hee!

Finally, you want to secure the spot where your ribbon meets...I used liquid glue in the photo, but I didn't like waiting for it to dry, so I hid a mini staple with my Tim Holtz attacher. perfect :) You could also cover this with some type of embellishment too.

Just a quick tutorial, but hopefully you get the gist. YOU MUST TRY THIS!!! I promise that you will LOVE the look!!!!

"Home Is Where Your Nest Rests":

The Grainy Background stamp was used to make my tree patterned paper. The scallop stamp from the Sing A New Song set was used to make my borders. I love to have items hanging off of the edge. This can be a problem with premade envelopes. What I simply do is trim a little off of the original card before I start my design. This way I have some extra room for the card to fit safely into the envelope :)

Trying to climb over the hump today...what a tough little hill...bonus is that I am meeting some friends after to work to go shopping at a new scrapbook store. It is about an hour and a half away for me, but it will be fun as I have not seen these friends since my mommy's funeral. We are having an early dinner too. I have my little shopping list ready to go :)

Hello fellow blogging cuties :) So sorry to be gone for a bit...major computer issues. I have had to rely on my iPad a lot and it does not work well with blogger or Ning networks :( I purchased an app from iTunes called BlogPress, but I don't really like it. Maybe I need to play with it more. I don't know....what I do know is that my computer is allowing me to access some things so I better ride this wave for as long as it will carry me...lol!

Last week's post for the Outlawz Challenges really made me sweat. I had to use my aunt's computer and I didn't get finished with everything until after 3:00am...as a result we have this supah late blog post. Computers....can't live with 'em and can't live without 'em....KWIM?

It's that time of year...

time for graduations and graduation parties. I have a busy day today so I thought I would do a quick post of a memory board that I made last June for a family party. I make them for grad parties, showers, funerals, birthdays....I have proabably made around 50 or so. I love doing them. Customized colors and themes....they are so fun. I made the boards for my mommy's viewing and wake...boy was that hard...I have not worked up the nerve to photo them or share them yet, but....I will....sometime.

Finally, the wheels are turning again....they are squeaking and smoking, but turning nonetheless :)

This is my first creation off of my leave of absence....of course, I had to make it for her....even if there is no where to send it, it had to be for her.

For this challenge I chose to paper pierce as one of the requirements. I knew I wanted to use a heart so I decided to use a stamped image as a template. First, I stamped the image...it doesn't even have to be a crisp or clean image. Then, I used my piercing tool to pierce around the stamp.

Next, I cut around the outside of the pierced edging.

When I finished, it looked like this:

I then flipped it over, piercing the holes again for it to stand out more and finished up by adding some Fired Brick Distressed Ink with a foam blending tool to bring out the dimension of the holes.

I used an xacto knife to cut partial parts of the butterfly stamped image out...

so I could tuck the heart behind it.

A Butterfly For You....with Copics and Distress Inks..

I have loved butterflies since I was a little girl. Any stamp set I see with them, I try to pick up. I am obsessed ;) Since I have all of these butterflies I had better get to inking them up. For this card I decided to try mixing distress inks with my Copics to color the image. I love how it turned out and I look forward to using this technique again.

First, I inked my image with Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black.

I used Cut N' Dry Nibs by Ranger to apply the distress ink to my butterfly.

I simply used the nib to pick up color directly from the ink pad.

I then applied the ink to the image in the desired spots. I used Spiced Marmalade and Fired Brick to add shading to the butterfly after coloring it with a Copic combo of YG04, YG07, YG09 and Y00. The mix of colors orange, yellow and red really brought the image to life. I love the intensity of this coloring technique.

Sorry the photo only shows me adding the Black Soot. I must have accidentally deleted the other photos I had. I thought I had backed them up, but, sadly, I did not :( In a way I am glad it happened this way because it reminded me that I needed to back up my photos :) Any suggestions for a good online storage site? I am looking to back up my back up ;)

Tonight we are celebrating our anniversary. We are going to dinner at one of our favorite places, Little Tokyo, for sushi. I even bought a new dress to wear. Thankfully, the material stretches a bit as I purchased it a few weeks ago. I love forgiving fabrics...hee hee ;) I just bought the 17 day diet book on my Mommy's Kindle, which I bought for her this past Christmas and have now inherited back. There are quite a few of my friend's on this right now and they all love it and have lost noticeable weight with it. I am going to give it a try...if anything, it will teach me how to eat healthier, right? Anyone else out in cyber world trying this? What are your thoughts?

9 years today...

I married my best friend....sounds cliche, I know....but, it is true. Our wedding anniversary and my grandmother's birthday. Rest in peace Gammie...now Mommy is there to light those candles for you again. My mom always made a big deal about our anniversary, so today will be bittersweet. I apologize to all...it seems that every road leads back to her right now...which is why I have been trying to be quiet....so as not to spread my pain to others...please do not get me wrong...I have TONS of wonderful, loving memories...I guess that is why it hurts so bad...because she loved me and I loved her so much that the void without her is nearly unbearable...she taught me to always be pleasant and respectful towards others...I do try to keep that in mind each day that I wake...to put one foot in front of the other...now...if only I can figure out how to stop my hand from putting food into my mouth...emotional eater...yep...that is me...instead of crying, I shove food in my mouth...I have heard from many of my friends that this has happened to them as well after the loss of a loved one...how did you break the cycle? I would rather spend money on stamping supplies than new clothes....KWIM? Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed....apparently placing a lock on the refrigerator is not a sufficient solution when there is another person in the house who needs to eat ;) Ahhh....always so off track anymore...I just want to say thank you to those who share their thoughts, experiences and encouragement with me...you truly are angels and have helped me soooo much. I truthfully do not know what I would do without you all...I am blessed :) I pray for each of you EVERY day. You are ALL amazing and deserve the BEST that life offers and I have faith that God will bless you in wonderful ways. Giant hugs and love to all!!!!

I am trying to get into posting a little....but, sadly, I cannot create....I only cry...I am hoping for this to change soon because I feel I really need an outlet of some sort. The friends that I have where I live have no interest in craftiness, so I only have my cyber friends for that. It is hard when I feel that if I could only go over to someone's house and make cards or do something crafty together, then it could help me to at least get this part of my heart back....sigh. Hopefully in time I will still be able to do so. Until then, I will try to post some older cards and things of mine to try to get into a routine.

The Outlawz Sunday CAS Challenge...

As some of you may know, I am currently on leave from my Outlawz DT duties due to the recent passing of my mom. I hope to be able to be back full strength very soon. What is a one layer card you ask? It is simple....the only layer of paper you are permitted is the card base itself! You just stamp directly on the card!!!! What a paper saver that is :) You may add some embellishment elements though, such as ribbon, gems, pearls, brads, eyelets....stuff like that. Thank you to all of you who still check my blog...who still leave me comments...I appreciate you so much...the thoughts warm my heart at a time when I need it the most...sorry that I have been gone for so long...I didn't mean to leave you all...life just got in my way...on February 17, 2011, my life changed forever...I wish I could tell you a wonderful story of lottery winnings or my finally getting pregnant...sadly, it is neither...instead, I speak of a shattered world and a broken heart...forever being changed...my laugh is not the same....my eyes are not the same...my thoughts are not the same...I am numb...I am pitiful...I have fallen apart on the inside...on the outside you may walk into my work and think there is nothing wrong...I am a feeling stuffer...I stuff them until I can go home and cry until my tear ducts are completely empty...have you ever cried with nothing coming out? It is a very strange sensation...like a deep cut without blood...it still stings and hurts like hell, but there is just...nothing.

If you are still with me this long, you are probably wondering what has happened, if you do not already know...on that fateful day my mom...my best friend, my confidant, my everything...had a massive heart attack. I wish I could tell you that she made it through and is by my side stronger than ever...through these tears I wish so badly that I could say that and have it be reality...oh, how I truly wish that...she fought as much as she could...just enough for arrangements to be made and for us to have one more sleepover...I cannot believe it is true...that Sunday, the 20th of February, 2011...my mom left this earth for her new home in heaven...where she is the most gorgeous of angels...beautiful white sparkling wings...being greeted by family and friends that have journeyed before her...leaving me behind...with no regrets for I love her with my entire being and I know that she knows that...I know that she always felt that...I know that she always saw that...that she still knows it...she still feels it...she still sees it...I believe that...because I need to...because unconditional love is strong enough to survive anything...including death...heaven is rejoicing to have her, but this word will suffer the loss of an AMAZING person...not just my Mommy...a brilliant, loving, caring, selfless individual who had a wonderful sense of compassion and patience for loving and healing others...my hero...my Mommy...my best friend...my heart and soul...I miss you so much...every day...every second...every breath that I take...I will never forget...I will always remember...the way you loved me...that is the greatest gift that I could ever be blessed with....rest in peace my sweet angel...I will see you again...I will love you today, tomorrow and always...to the moon and back...I love you Mommy..

Autumn Kissing Technique tutorial...

yep...another off season card...guess I am in complete denial that it is winter and we are plagued with a severe chill here in the northeast...who likes reality anyway? It is so overrated ;) I guess I could cheat and say that this is sort of in season...there is a tutorial connected for the "Kissing Technique"...Valentine's Day is Monday...yikes! I better get those valentines finished and in the mail by Saturday...being sick has really thrown me even further behind....ugh! I need to have a major crafting storm on Friday night....wish me luck :)

"Kissing Technique" Tutorial:

STEP 1: Choose your stamps and gather your supplies. You will need to choose one SOLID stamped image and one TEXTURED/PATTERNED stamp. For ink, I have chosen black only because I chose to stamp on patterned paper. If you are not stamping on patterned, you must choose 1 light and 1 dark coordinating ink.

STEP 2: Ink your textured/patterned stamp in your dark colored ink (in my case it was black). Ink your solid stamp in your lightest ink (please note that I did not need to ink my solid image for I chose to stamp on patterned paper).

STEP 3: Press the solid stamp onto the texture/patterned stamp. Use a steady hand for this step as the stamps may slide. You just want to "kiss" the stamp. Make sure to pick up the entire pattern and lift UP when pulling your solid stamp off.

STEP 4: Stamp image on paper of choice.

***THE NEXT STEPS ARE OPTIONAL***

STEP 5: Cut your stamped image out with scissors.

STEP 6: Ink the edges of the image for added punch.

STEP 7: Place adhesive pop dots behind the stamped image/s for ultimate dimension.

Some things to remember:

*Make sure that you generously ink your textured stamp for a crisp "kiss". Pigment inks work best as the stay "wet" a little longer.

*Use a steady hand and lift upwards so that you do not smudge your pattern.

*Make sure you always put your lid on your ink pad if your dog has "happy tail" syndrome.

*Place unused pop dots in an area where they will not wind up in your hair, on your elbow or on the dog's paw ;)

The weekend is here and I am determined that by Monday morning I will be at 100%. I am not taking anything less than that :) Hope you all enjoy some craftiness! Hugs to you!

I have a few bottles of this Smooch Ink so I thought I better start using it. I liked how it turned out. The pink is called "Taffy" and the blue is called "Pool". I found I had to keep mixing it so the color stayed the same, but that helped me to remain patient so I didn't screw it up...tee hee ;)

Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday. We are having "family" time watching golf and making steak dinner. I love Sundays, but I know that Monday is all too near. Ugh...it will be a fun week though because there will be a lot going on with the Superbowl being next Sunday. I can hardly wait :)

whew! Finally, it is Friday...I had a pretty long, emotional and tough week. Many reasons...all of which I am working on leaving behind...finding strength to move on....having faith that the person I am is nothing short of amazing....I wear my heart on my sleeve and that makes me an easy target most of the time...the tears may fall, but I never will...I will continue to be kind to others....I will continue to encourage....I will continue to support...I will continue to smile...all because I believe that people will treat you as you treat them, which is why I was so confused as to why I had to go through not one, but two incidents...shortly after asking why, I received a few emails that gave me strength and filled me with pride and love...friends...friends who are like family...they will never go away....they will never doubt me...they will never lose trust in me....because...they get me...unconditional love and friendship...that is my reward...so, while some may not be happy with me or like me, I have people in my life that do...I am a LUCKY girl...am I still sad? You bet...but..I cannot be sad for decisions that were right for me. Remember...some things are not always as they appear...while your mind may be made up that I have not done right by you...trust in God that my heart was and always is in the right place...you can bet on it. So for anyone who is going through a tough time....a card of strength and faith...always trust in yourselves my sweet friends...why? Because you are worth it!

My "Faux Scallop" edge:

I used my 1/4" circle punch to punch out circles to adhere half all along the outside edge of the card. You are probably thinking that this was a lot of work...it actually was done in 5 minutes...no kidding! I then adhered a circle of patterned paper on top to leave only the scallop edge to show.

I absolutely LOVE this stem stamp!!! It is one of my FAVES!!! I have another card in which I used it that I cannot wait to show you :) With this card I stamped in different coordinating inks and finished the look off with a few rhinestones.

Out With the Old, In With the New...

This week there is an "Out with the Old and In with the New" challenge. The challenge is to use up some of your OLD stash to make a NEW card. The requirements for this challenge are to simply use anything older than 3 months in your stash and combine it with your newest stamp to create a card, layout or project. I am all about using up some stash!!! Here is my sample:

It has been awhile....I took some time off due to a hectic work schedule and the holidays. I also have been mostly on my iPad and I cannot blog on it :( I thought I would be able to, but no such luck. I hope that Blogger thinks about having an app. That would really make things easier :)

I hope that this post finds you all well and enjoying the start to a fantastic New Year! I am wading through some changes and, if you know me, I do not like change, but I am trying to embrace it. I have seen many friends travel on different paths and while it saddens me that they are not in my everyday life anymore, I do hope that they know that I think of them daily. I guess life moves on right? These are fabulous people so I know that fantastic things are in store for them this year. I just sure do miss them :( On to happier notes...I have a build up of cards that I have not shared, so I will have plenty to post for a bit....hooray!

Here is a wonderful way to present any spirits that you may be giving this season....an altered wine carrier. Of course, you can always fill this with some other things too...scrapbook supplies, clothing (anything that can be rolled works super well)....lotions....truly the list is endless. I am currently working on one for my friend Alyssa who just had her very first baby. I got a bottle, a onesie, some baby socks, a nursing blanket thing...I am going to see what else I can stuff in there :) I am decorating it to match her nursery....lavender and black with damask prints and polka dots. She even has her own chandelier....yes, I want to move in...lol! I will share pics of it when I am finished. Now let's get festive and get down to business!

Hi ya cyber friends!!! Has it really been almost a month since I blogged last? Yikes! I had some crazy stuff going on, but....knock on wood...things seem to be settling down just a little so I am trying to get back on track and create a new and improved schedule for myself. Regularly blogging is definitely on the list :)

The cardstock for both the card itself and the stamped images were white in color. I used the distress inks to color them after stamping with the Memento ink with my Foam Blending tool by Ranger. LOVE that thing!!!

PAPER TOWEL ROLL TREAT PILLOW BOXES:

TUTORIAL:

You can also make these cute little treat boxes with toilet paper rolls too!

STEP 1: Get an empty paper towel roll (or TP roll)

STEP 2: Flatten it with a bone folder for a crisp edge.

STEP 3: Measure out the size of your pillow boxes (not necessary with TP rolls). The roll is used was 11 inches long. I got two 3 3/4" boxes and 1 3 1/2" box out of my roll.

STEP 4: Add a strong adhesive to one side of the roll.

STEP 5: Carefully line up paper, adhere. Next add adhesive to the other side of the roll and wrap the paper around. Secure with adhesive.

STEP 6: Push in one end of the roll. Use your fingers to squeeze the fold a little better so it stays.

STEP 7: Repeat step 6 with the other side of the pinched fold. It will look like this:

STEP 8: Fill with desired items.

STEP 9: Repeat steps 6 and 7 to complete the box and decorate accordingly.

Stitch & Stamp Tutorial with IPPITY :)

Finally it is Thursday...such a tough week this time around. I am looking forward to the weekend because I am in need of some serious crafting time. Both for deadlines and for my mental health...lol ;) Please keep your fingers crossed that I do not get called in to work on Saturday. My feet are screaming already and while extra money is always needed (especially in the colder months/winter with Mike's one job being seasonal), I really appreciate the time off. That double edge sword sort of things (did I get that right...sounds strange). Anyway...enough chatty and let's get on with the tutorial!

This technique can be as tedious as you allow it to be, but the end result is just amazing. I was soooo happy with the image I chose (can you say IPPITY? Yummy!) and how it turned out. I have so much embroidery floss and I am thinking I may actually be able to out a dent in it now that I know I will use this stamp & stitch again and again. The downside is that I am now looking at stamps in a different way....yes, this means I have rationalized some more "need" for purchasing...tee hee ;)

"Life Is Too Short To Be Anything But Happy" (isn't that the truth?):

"Stamp & Stitch Technique" Tutorial:

STEP 1: Stamp your image.

STEP 2: Take a piercing tool or pin and pierce your pattern where you wish to add thread.

STEP 3: Sew the parts of your stamp you wish to highlight.

STEP 4: Be careful not to pull too hard as to tear your paper. Here is a close up of the running stitch that I used. Secure any loose thread on the back of your image with a tiny knot or a little tape.

STEP 5: Color and/or embellish your newly sewn stamped image as desired.

Some things to remember:
*Use a self healing mat or old mouse pad underneath your stamped image when piercing. This will save your table, lap or splat mats from any damage.

*Use a thimble when stitching or be very aware of where your needle will be entering the paper. If you get drops of blood on your image you may have to start over (yes...this is from experience).

*This can be done while watching TV or talking on the phone (exclude texting or there will be needle marks in your phone). Please see the tip above for safety reasons ;)

*The shorter the length of your embroidery thread, the less tangles you will get.

*Pulling the thread through the pierced hole too quickly will result in the paper tearing. Again, you may end up having to start over. Take your time :)

We have been without sun here in Pittsburgh for the last 3 days and it has rained. Looking at this sun really lifts my spirits :) Thankfully we have been blessed with GORGEOUS weather today. CAS Fall...

this was for a challenge at Simply Scrapping Crafts for the Stamp & Scrap Group that I co-lead with my awesome friend and Sistah, Rona (who happens to be an Ippity Chick...look on the right side of my blog and scroll down a little and you will find a blinkie. If you click on it, you will go right to her web store). I nice simple one....design a card, layout or project that has a Clean & Simple design with a fall theme. I broke out my foam stamps and acrylic paint for this one. I had forgotten how much I enjoy my foam stamps and being covered in paint :) I also forgot how much I dislike when it gets on the dog....my loving little piece of Velcro...I do not know what I would do without him :)

Fall is definitely upon is here in Pittsburgh. It is cold and rainy with no sunshine. The beautiful fall weather will be here later in the week. I cannot wait! I love the inspiration that fall brings...the gorgeous colors, the crisp air, the vibrant spirits...ahhh...I absolutely LOVE it!!!

Close up details:

The pearl was cream colored and stood out like a sore thumb, so I colored it with a Copic marker to help it blend in more. The outside edging of the mats and the card it self were done with a foam brush and acrylic paint. I used an exacto knife to cut a bit of the letter F out so that I could tuck the adorable leaf paper behind it.

"There is No Remedy For Love":

Supplies Used:

"Spotlight Stamping" Technique Tutorial:

STEP 1: Stamp 2 identical images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink (I use this because I color with Copics).

STEP 2: Take one of the images and color a portion that you would wish to highlight.

STEP 3: Use a punch to cut out the part of the stamped image that you have chosen to highlight. You can use either a circle, a square, an oval, hexagon...whatever shape you wish. I like to turn the punch upside down so I can see where the punch will cut.

STEP 4: Mat the colored stamp punch with dark cardstock to help it pop.

STEP 5: Add pop dots to the back of the newly matted image to give it extra dimension (this step is optional).

STEP 6: Carefully line up your punched piece of the image with the uncolored full image and adhere.

STEP 7: Your image is finished and ready to be used on your project.

Wednesdays are fabulous! I only work 7 hours and today is my birthday, so it is dinner and cake this evening :) I love to mix cake with ice cream....Ice Cream Soup...it is the only way I eat cake :) If I remember, I will take a picture of it for you. Yum!

Today we have a Chemistry lesson scheduled ;) This was my other challenge from the Back 2 School Crop at SSC. The "assignment was to use the Period Table of Elements pictured below, pick one element and use the letters of its symbol to create a formula for your layout, card or project.

Examples:
He = Helium
The letter H = "Happy Birthday" sentiment
The letter e = Elegant style

Zr = Zirconium
The letter Z = Zoo theme
The letter r = Rhinoceros

Your letters can stand for colors, themes, sentiments, products, manufacturers, techniques, actions, things...truthfully just about anything! See how we went from hard to super easy?

For our class sample I tried to choose something hard so that you can see it only looks hard, but it truly isn't. I have done a compound, NaCl, Sodium Chloride, also know as Table Salt.

this card is from SSC's Back 2 School Crop that we hosted a couple of weekends ago. It was an awesome time! I hope 2 "periods" to "teach". They were Shop class and Chemistry Class. Today is the Shop class sample. I will share the Chem sample tomorrow.

I would never deny it....I am a homebody, as they say...I just love being at home with my dog...in my pj's...with glitter on my face, paint on my hands and pop dots in my hair...true statement, by the way ;) I work around 50 hours a week, give or take a few and more so during the holidays. Part of me wishes I could stay home and craft all day, but we know that would never happen. There are always things to do around the house. I am blessed to have a job....and blessed yet again because it is one that I love. How else am I going to pay for this nasty little scrapbooking product addiction that I have? Ha ha :)

These were colored with Copics to match the stamped image (also colored to match were the flower and the American Crafts vinyl Thicker). You can also see that the limes are actually kiwis....I guess I was in the mood for a Strawberry Kiwi Daquiri instead of a Margarita...yum!

Here is a little mini tutorial that I did for SSC's Back 2 School Crop...

TORN NOTEBOOK PAPER TUTORIAL:

STEP 1:
I have used the Stampin' Up spiral punch to make my "holes". If you do not have one of these, then you can use a hole punch on the edge all the way down the left side of the paper and then tear them in the middle of each hole to give the same look. I used white paper, but, of course, you can use any color that you want :)

STEP 2:
Use a ruler and a fine tip black or blue pen I used back so it would photograph well) to make your lines. Mine are a 1/4" apart. Continue to the end of your chosen length of paper.

STEP 3:
Using your ruler again and a red fine tip pen, make 2 lines vertically down the left side of your paper, connecting the horizontal lines, for your margin. I just eyeballed this one, but you can make them about 1/16" apart.
NOTE: You can switch step 2 and 3 depending on how what is more comfortable for you.

STEP 4: Your finished paper is ready for your special message :)

Easy Peasy eh? Now you can pass notes all over the house and in any size that you want :) Hope you all have a fabulous Monday!!!

Paper Pieced Stamping...

Paper piecing is a fun way to give your old stamps a new look. This technique is a favorite of mine. Depending on the stamp you choose, you could have a bit of tedious work ahead of you, but for the most part this is super easy to do.

"Lovin' From The Oven":

Supplies Used:

Card: Michael's

Patterned Paper: Unknown (using up scraps)

Stamps: Pink, Sugar, Pop!; Close To My Heart

Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko)

Ribbon: Darice

Die Cuts: Nestabilities Labels 8 (Spellbinders)

Other: Pop Dots; Staples (Making Memories)

STEP 1: You can ink the entire stamp, but to save ink, I ink only the portion I am going to be using.

STEP 2: Stamp on the patterned paper of your choice.

STEP 3: Cut out the portion of your stamped image (I have found that micro-tip scissors work best for this process).

STEP 4: Continue Steps 1 through 3 for each "piece" of the stamp. The photo below shows all pieces of the stamp I chose.

STEP 5: The final step is to adhere to your project. Using Pop Dots/Foam Tape will give your image added interest and dimension.

How did it get to be Monday again so quickly? Ugh!!! Hope you are all making the best of it :)

Ok...I have these 2 friends...who happen to also be 2 of mine Design Team Sistahs...that have gotten me COMPLETELY hooked on Ippity Stamps (shout out to Angie and Rona). I am calling it "Ippity-itis" because I just can't shake "needing" to buy more of these stamps. Wonder what this company is about and where you can get some of your own? I am glad that you asked :) Rona is an "Ippity Chick" and sells the sets straight from her blog (Paypal payments). She just got her new releases up and selling the other day (I bought a few sets, but, of course, need more). You just HAVE to check it out!!! The stamps are of the HIGHEST quality rubbah, are unmounted so storage space is not a problem and are fresh and fantastic designs! Rona has fabulous communication with the customer, fast packaging and shipping and answers all questions! Plus, she is my Sistah and I love her :)

I stamped the stem of one of the flowers in the set and topped it with a button. For the sentiment, I inked up the stamp and wiped the ink off of the word 'and' , leaving 'open your heart' for the title.

How I added a pattern to my grungeboard letters:

Step 1 ink your stamp:

Step 2 was a little tricky since I was using a narrow patterned stamp (from the TGF Spotlight Kit). I had to ink 1 side at a time.

Final product: A raw grungeboard letter with an awesome even pattern :)

Card Background:

The background of the card was made by weaving 3/4" strips of paper together. Here is a close up pic:

I used 5 strips vertically and horizontally. I wove the vertical strips in and out of the horizontal ones.

You can tighten and straighten the strips as you go along. I added adhesive here and there to help secure.

Michelle Perkett Challenge and Copics class..

I had to quickly throw this pick up because I was using that link thing to post to the challenge. I didn't realize that you could not just upload straight from your computer....learning something new every day...lol ;) I am now editing in my info.

No more stone talk...I think it is bad karma...plus, I am sure that is not something one wants to read when searching for daily inspiration...ha ha! I still have them, but it is very strange that I have not had a pain in a day and a half. The doctor says when that happens it means it is floating. Whatever...no more stone talk! Tee hee! I am at work and I have been raising my hand for over 2 hours, but no one will call on me. May I go home please? Is anyone listening? Oh..I forgot..I am the only one here...sigh...I was feeling fair this early this morning. I brought a big container of cranberry juice that I am mixing with water. I am drinking that mix in between regular glasses of water. I think I am ready to float home. I felt like the pain lessened today and that maybe it wasn't a stone. but, alas, it is back and I am growing more miserable by the second. I have so much to do today after work too. Mike's birthday is on Friday and I have to sneak to the golf course for a gift certificate and today is the only I can do that without him knowing. I also have a DT assignment due this evening as well that I have to finish. I am hoping that it all goes smoothly so that I can rest. I felt so much better this morning and I think it is because I rested and forced fluids. I am looking to my head hitting the pillow :)

Speaking of Mike...I thought I would share a card that I made for him with you. I tied it into the Copics lesson from last week....coloring fur. I adore this image from Pixie Dust Studios and couldn't wait to color it! I was a little intimidated at first, but it turned out ok. I am such an overblender, so it was hard for me to color chunky for the fur. Lisa always makes it look so easy :) I struggled quite a bit, but am still happy with it because it is such an adorable image...Jacob in his wolf form :) I just won a free PDS image for being the 300th follower over at PCP. I was so excited!!! I chose the brand new Nutcracker image....Kathy is so kind and generous! Thank you so much Kathy!

Monday...Monday...Monday...

Ugh! Monday again? I think we need to start keeping track...I think Monday is squeezing itself in more than once a week...at least it feels like it...lol! Lots to chat about today! First....I have been absent the last few days in the blogging world. If you are familiar with my track record, then you know this is no cause for alarm ;) However, I do have an excuse. My computer contracted a virus...4 to be exact. The program I am using (Kaspersky Internet Security) seems to have disinfected the files and cleaned it up...knock on wood. The thing that bothers me is the only thing I can think that I did differently this week was blog hop like mad. I am not a computer whiz so I do not know if I could have picked something up this way or not. It was kind of scary because the viruses were in my D drive which houses all of my system restoration files. Never had one there before. Let's hope I never do again!

Next on the list...guess what? I wish I could insert here that I won the lottery, or am getting published, am pregnant, or some other fabulous news. Sadly, my news is that I think my kidney stones are back :( I wasn't sure over the weekend, but when I woke up this morning, I can say there is no other pain to confuse it with. I am still at work and am super miserable, although I am trying to be upbeat. I am not one for complaining, but YOUCH!!!! I am flushing myself with cranberry juice and water (I hate cranberry juice) in attempts to try to avoid a trip to the doctor's or ER. I just have to pee every 5 seconds and I work by myself, so this is inconvenient and annoying...lol! I just want to lay down with some moist heat (I do not know why that makes it feel a bit better, but it does so I go with it....it is probably mental...ha ha) and take it easy. I am only working 8 hours today, so I hope the time flies by. I do have some work to finish tonight. I hope I feel up to it. The good news is that only 1 of the things I need to do is due tomorrow.

WHEW!!! My feet are killing me! I run around all day like some kind of nut. I think I definitely need some new shoes! I am also out of snacks...yikes! I only have an hour and a half to go and I just ate a granola bar, so let's hope that holds the blood sugar in place until I get home.

There is a whole lot of love flying around the SSC site today, so I thought that should be the theme of the card I post today. I LOVE MY DT SISTAHS!!! What an amazing and incredible group of women. Did you ever have those moments in life where you just want to stop for a minute and relish in the greatness of it all? I do this often actually, but I went a step further in my thinking and realized that right now, this moment, there will not be another group quite like this. There could be another great group, but it would be different. Does this make any sense? Lol...I think I need a nap ;)

This card was made for one of the challenges over at SSC in the Stamp & Scrap group and was based on a sketch. There was a twist to make and use a handmade flower on the card. I chose to make my using a heart stamp and cardstock.

Am I crazy...

or is this already shaping up to be a long week? I woke up today and thought...hmmm...it's only Tuesday? Ugh! I want to know who started this 5 day work week, 2 day weekend guideline? It should at least be 4 days work and 3 days weekend :) Now do not get me wrong....I feel very blessed that I work at all, let alone Monday through Friday. It is so scary how things in the job market seem to be getting worse. I say prayers for those and their families who cannot find work. I work for a small business and have reality hit me every day that my job could end. Reminder for the day...try not to take things for granted...appreciate and love what you have...even it is not what you may want.

K...got the tough stuff out of the way and it is only 7:55am...shaping up to be a good day :) It would be better though if I could sneak in a nap ;) I have not been sleeping well at all for the last 2 weeks and it is really catching up with me today. Wonder what my coloring is going to look like later this evening? Ha ha ;)

In the middle of all of these mortgage payments, utility bills, car payments, taxes...I thought for a second that I wish I were in high school again. Where the only bill you really had was your prom gown...lol. Then, I thought of the school work, the peer pressure, juggling school, work and athletics. I went back to being glad I am where I am...until I remembered the summer. Remember when you went to the beach with your family....and you could smell the ocean mixed with the smell of the boardwalk...you met a summer love that you promised to always stay in touch with...only to lose the phone number and address 1 week after being home? Eating boardwalk fries....pizza...salt water taffy...all without any repercussions? Back to mind come the hormones....the acne...the REALLY bad, frizzy hair...the awkwardness...hmmm...wait a minute...I am still dealing with 3 of those....it is nice to reminisce, but I have come to the realization that I would not be the same person with the same morals and heart that I am today. Definitely worth the sweat, tears and lessons learned. So to end that tangent...lol...I leave you with a card inspired by my "Peter Pan Syndrome"...literally...

Close up of the shadowing... My shadowing was done with G0000 and does not photograph well at all because it is so light. I will have to get a darker color to do this with. I tried to darken the photo to help bring it out, but it didn't work. I also may have blended the edges a little too well...oops! I do promise you that the shadowing is there...faint as it may be. After all, Peter Pan did find his shadow ;)

I have had the worst sweet tooth lately! I am not really a baked goods eater, but I do love cookies. I will eat cake on a VERY rare occasion. When I do, I prefer homemade. There is no better cake than one made of paper :)

What is your favorite paper to color with Copics?

I am trying to find a paper to use with my Copics that I am comfortable with. I started out using Neenah paper (90# weight), but, of course, I ordered the wrong kind...it was supposed to be 80# weight. I have been using it (I do not want to waste it), but it is a classic white so it has an ivory tint to it. As you well know, this effects the color of the markers I am using.
I also ordered a pack of the Gina K paper and, this is going to sound crazy, but the more I blend the stickier and tackier the paper gets. I love the cardstock weight though. I received some images in a swap that are on cryogean paper. I haven't tried that one yet. It seems to also have a tint to it and is not a true white. I have the Copic paper tablet too. I really LOVE it, but I miss the cardstock weight :(
I am hoping that if you are reading this, and you color with Copics, that you will please take the time to comment on this post and let me know what paper works best for you. I want to try as many as I can because I am on the hunt to find what I will color best on. Hoping to cut down on some of the frustration I guess...tee hee ;)

Helllooooo Wednesday!!!

Hello lovies!!! Can you believe it is Wednesday already? How about July...can you believe it is July? Wow! Time sure is moving FAST! I have been trying to blog for the last 3 days, but every time I am on here it seems to be broken and acting up. I thought it was a sign ;) Thankfully today when I logged on I did not get an error message screen, so I am running with that!

Here is a card from Father's Day that I made for Mike. It is also my Copics Lesson 10 challenge....coloring black with a recipe to follow. I felt good coloring the vest and shoes, but that hair...whew! I struggle with coloring black hair in a large space like this! What a mess! Please do not look closely...ha ha :) So, this Copic process I am going through is slow, but I am seeing some improvement. I need to get some more practice time in. Hopefully, things in the house will stop breaking so that I can play more. I hope I did not just throw down a jinx there.

Now this stamp is from The Greeting Farm. I just adore their Twilight inspired images (Pixie Dust Studio's rock too....check out my new Edward on the side...you can get one too on their website...Thank you Kathy!). This image is Jeremy from the Roll Call kit (completely and totally worth the money, by the way). It is inspired by the character Emmett, but that short hair reminded me of Jacob's New Moon 'do, so I used it for this card. I know...it is not truly Jacob because he is wearing a shirt...lol! I went a little crazy practicing adding white gel pen highlights, so his cheeks have to many shine spots :( I was NOT coloring this over...ha ha!!!

The recipe was to use at least 3 different patterned papers, 3 buttons and ribbon.

How have you "bean" cyber friends? Hopefully all is well with you and your families. I myself am going through quite a lot right now, but I pray that it all passes soon. I believe in rainbows after a storm :) Just a quick card to share with you. I am hoping that I will be able to figure out a better schedule that will allow me a little more time for crafting. I think I am going to have to literally block off a certain of time per day or per week and stick to it. I sometimes let too many things get in the way of some restful peace of mind. I am, after all, a spaz by nature :) How about you? Have you been able to craft like you want to lately? Please do share! I would love to know what is going on in your lives! Do you have any fabulous sites of inspiration to share? We can never have too much of that can we? I am going to be doing some serious blog hopping in the next few days to visit you all. Happy weekend my friends!!! I am spending mine in bed with a horrific head cold....boo! It is such a strange thing...first it was my tonsils and now a head cold with body and muscle aches. I only worked 6 0f my 10 hour shift yesterday. I got lucky and was able to have someone come in. Food and beverages should not be served by someone with a snotty nose.....you know what I'm saying? I think I need to get some vitamins to take to help ward off these bugs. I just had a stomach virus 3 weeks ago. Maybe this means that I will be germ free for the rest of the year :) How nice would that be?

Here is a question for you...why does a short work week (I had the day off on Monday for Memorial Day) always feel longer than a regular work week? Sigh :( It could have something to do with the tonsillitis that I have. Wasn't sure yesterday, but today I am almost positive. Yuck! I will not go to the doctor's because the last time I went they said they may have to discuss taking them out. No way (I say as I stomp my feet and jump up and down....very mature...I know...lol)! It only hurts really bad for a couple of days. It makes me stronger...ha ha! The bad thing is that I have a very busy weekend. I have a retirement dinner for my father-in-law, a project to finish (and start actually) for my niece's graduation party, DT samples and a special DT project. Whew! I am tired already ;) It keeps the blood pumping and keeps me out of trouble, so I shouldn't whine. Ok...done whining :)

Here is another attempt at Copics. This is before I got my cheek colors and the correct colors for blonde hair. I am going to do it again so I can compare for differences to see if I have made some improvements. I will share it with you :)

Learning...

Well...as I am trying to learn the ins and outs of Copic Markers, I decided to post my very first attempt at using them. I bought a set to start and now wished I would have just markers as I went along. Here I used the Y11, Y13 and Y15. This was the only combo of 3 that I had. I promise you that there is yellow in the patterned paper. It is just such poor lighting in my photo. I could try to dig the card out and retake it, but I am too lazy ;) I actually took a power nap today after work and I have woken up with what I think is the start of a sore throat. I am hoping that I am wrong, but since my hubby is sick right now, I am not ruling it out. There is that yucky sick taste in the back of my throat...YUCK! I really need to learn to rest better so that my body doesn't get attacked so much.

I am an overblender....I confess! The light source that I had was awesome and then I went to town blending and it is all but gone...sigh...practice, practice, practice.

I guess it is not too bad for the very first time. I am now up to faces and trying to get the shine down for hair. Here is a pic of some faces...please ignore the poor stamping and the awful hair and dress. I have since gotten some new marker combos to work with so I am hoping to practice away to some sort of non-embarrassing finished bodies with hair and clothing. It is all a process :)

How do you like those "just fed" vampire eyes? Ha ha! I told you my collection of Copics was limited....either that or I have Eclipse on the brain...I am so excited that everything is starting to look like a vampire...tee hee ;)

I want to get off!! WOW!!! Can you believe it has almost been a month since I blogged last? Life has just been so busy and crazy!!! SLOW DOWN!!! I miss my fellow cyber bloggers!!! I just have a few more things to get caught up on and I will hopefully be back for good! I can't even remember what project I posted last...lol! Wow...that is REALLY bad!!!
