Altered Paint Can

Another class I taught...an altered paint can. The theme is for a Christmas Cookie Exchange. You would have to put some wax paper in the can to line it or put some tissue paper in it for presentation and place the cookies in a Ziploc bag in the can. I personally like the latter of the two as it keeps the cookies fresher longer.

The can front: It has been so long on this project that I am having a hard time remembering the paper manufacturer. I think it is K&Co. The word "Cookies" is stamped onto patterned paper with acrylic paint and then was cut out and adhered onto the can. The picture doesn't show it too well, but it gives it a little shadowed look for slight dimension. The foam stamps used are by Making Memories lower case Jersey font.

The lid and handle: There is a tag adhered to the lid to label with a general to and from. The ribbon on the handle is tied on with double knots and is manufactured by Darice. The country gingham ribbon was wired so I had to pull the wire out of both sides before using. Tip: Do not use your good $15 scissors to cut the wired ribbon. Ask me how I know this...lol ;) The tulle is from Michael's. I call this a "filler" (helps you use less ribbon, but still get a full look). It is cheap, comes in tons of colors and is a beautiful addition to the design itself. Another bonus with the tulle is it works with many different themes!

Back of the can: This is my favorite part. I used the Coluzzle library card template to cut out a pocket for the cookie I planned to put in the can (in this case it was Snickerdoodles....yum). A little piece of country gingham ribbon was looped for a pull tab so the recipe can easily slide out. A paint can opener was tied to the one side of the can with a tulle bow to allow easy entry into the can.

I think that adding some Stickles to this would really give this the Wow Factor. My choice adhesive is Xyron permanent adhesive (using the larger sizes machine). Mod Podge is also a favorite, but it is a lot messier.

Ok well now I have completely stirred up a craving for cookies and milk. So, off I go :) Hmm...there's an idea....you can do this project with your kids and they can make a paint can for Santa's cookies or maybe one for the Reindeer's carrots....you can assemble the can and then let them decorate it. They can even tuck a thank you letter in there too. Must have cookies......
